When You Are up Against Inflexibility, Combativeness
Your spouse is not making it easy for you to come to a compromise on issues associated with your divorce. Perhaps they will not communicate or participate in mediation which all Judges recommend. Maybe they are looking for a fight and are uncharacteristically bellicose. And maybe it is their very belligerence that has led to the desire to file for divorce. No matter what the reason for another party’s inflexibility, you need a lawyer who will represent you. Someone who will aggressively and effectively fight on your behalf.
Whether your high conflict dispute is related to division of marital assets, spousal support (alimony) or child custody, I will work to diffuse volatility and bring about resolution.
Negotiating and Obtaining Favorable Settlements
At the Law Firm of Kevin Stuart Cavanaugh, I bring my skills as a negotiator to the table when dealing with a divorce issue that seems impossible to resolve. I work with my clients to negotiate settlements that are specific and unambiguous. This will help avoid problems in the future.
If a spouse you are divorcing threatens violence or becomes physically or verbally abusive, you may rely upon me to help you take steps to protect yourself. Over the years, I have represented a number of clients in cases related to spousal abuse. Remember that the Courts and the Judges encourage you to seek protection when you need it but they disfavor claims that are not supported by facts. Police reports and witnesses can help the Courts and Judges understand what happened.
Third-Party Opinions
My 25 years of experience has made me effective in obtaining favorable settlements for my clients. If a party is particularly combative, we can generally obtain a decree from the judge to provide a third party to evaluate behavior and present an opinion in court. This person may be a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, a social worker or a guardian ad litem.
I look forward to speaking with you and helping you find resolution so that you can successfully move past your contested divorce. Contact the Law Firm of Kevin Stuart Cavanaugh today and schedule a free initial consultation. Call (913) 828-4939.
