High asset divorce: A prenuptial agreement is a valuable tool

You have met the love of your life and can’t wait to get married. Perhaps you own a successful business in Kansas or simply want to protect your interests as best you can. Thinking of such issues does not mean you do not love or trust your soon-to-be spouse. Many people in your situation simply want to be as prepared as possible in case a high asset divorce ever takes place.

Some question whether it is beneficial to a relationship to think of divorce before getting married. Others, however, say that not being afraid to discuss such things and working together as a couple to sign an agreement can ultimately strengthen the bonds of the relationship. There is no way to predict the future but there are ways to control certain aspects of it.

Perhaps you’re reading this and lamenting the fact that you and your spouse did not sign a prenup before you got married. You may still decide to sign a post nuptial contract. Either type of agreement is helpful when one of your main goal s is to designate and protect separately owned property in marriage.

Signing a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement does not necessarily mean you are expecting your marriage to end in a high asset divorce. It is a fact, however, that divorce is much more prevalent nowadays than it used to be. Therefore, couples who wish to be as prepared as they can for the unknown are wise to discuss such topics and explore their options. The Law Firm of Kevin Stuart Cavanaugh, in Kansas, has 25 years’ experience in providing support to engaged and married individuals in all aspects of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, as well as all divorce-related issues.
